 Reverend Jimmy L. Gilchrist is a native of Fairmont, North Carolina. He graduated from the former Rosenwald High School in 1964. He received his B.A. Degree from Shaw University in 1968, and his Master's Degree of Divinity from Shaw Divinity in 1981. Rev. Gilchrist accepted the responsibility as pastor of St. John Baptist Church in March 1979, at the age of 32. 
 
For the past 30 years he has led St. John in promoting the Christian growth to a higher degree. Rev. Gilchrist believes that religion plays an important role in our lives. It is a focal point for many families and provides a sense of unity for those who worship together. Through religion, we gain a sense of inner strength which can enrich our lives and our relationships with our fellow man. Rev. Gilchrist was also elected Moderator of the Pee Dee Association in the year 2001 and served unti12005. He is presently serving as vice moderator of Pee Dee Association

 
He is President of the Robeson County Black Caucus as well as president of African American Caucus of Robeson County Democratic Party.  Before coming to St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Gilchrist pastored the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in St. Paul, NC and Antioch Baptist Church in Proctorville, NC. 

 
Memberships are as follows: First Baptist Church in Fairmont, NC, NAACP, NC, Court Counselor Association, and Golden Leaf Lodge #124. Past experiences are as follows: served as Vice Moderator of the Pee Dee Association, served as the President of the Ministerial Board of the Lumber River Baptist Association, elected in 1986 Historian for the General Baptist State Convention, and served as the Chairman of the Robeson County Board of Elections. 

 
Rev. Gilchrist retired in 1999 as Court Counselor of the 16th Judicial after thirty years of service. He is the owner and editor of The Tri-County Times.  He is married to Carolyn Campbell Gilchrist who is employed by Southeastern Regional Medical Center as a Hospice Worker . They are the parents of Miranda Gilchrist Pearson, a teacher in the state of Georgia, son in laws, James Pearson, and they have one granddaughter, Hannah Marie Pearson.
